ISAA Student Performance Spotlight

As we close out the year, ISAA is proud to highlight the dedication, progress, and resilience of the five students we support. Since 2022, we’ve had the privilege of accompanying each of them on their educational and personal development journeys.

Although they attend different schools across Jacmel, Haiti, they all come together through the FIEH after-school program, where they receive tutoring, computer classes, and opportunities to explore arts and crafts. Each student dreams of becoming a nurse, scientist, doctor, or lawyer — and it is our mission to uplift them every step of the way.

We invite you to visit our website to learn more about each student and their goals.

Penguin Random House Book Donation

We extend our sincere appreciation to Penguin Random House for their generous donation of books in support of our students’ academic enrichment. This contribution will significantly enhance their access to quality learning materials and foster a stronger culture of reading within our program. The shipment is currently in transit to Haiti, and we will provide a follow-up update once the materials have been received by the students.

Current Events: Why This Matters for Our Students & Community Work

The dual reality of devastation from Hurricane Melissa and the uplifting World Cup qualification underscores both the fragility and resilience of life in Haiti today. For students in Jacmel participating in after-school programs like ours, these events are deeply relevant:

  • Post-hurricane challenges — In a recent update from the FIEH after-school program director, they shared that while everyone is safe, Jacmel has faced significant damage. Rising river levels cut off the national road at the city’s entrance, several neighborhoods experienced flooding, and the community cultivator suffered major losses to their garden. They expressed deep gratitude for the concern and support shown during this challenging time.

  • National pride and hope — Haiti’s World Cup qualification on November 18, 2025 brings a sense of unity and possibility. It is especially significant due to November 18, 1803 being the date of the final major battle of the Haitian Revolution; the Battle of Vertières. It's a moment that can inspire students to aim high, persevere, and believe in better futures.

By sharing these updates with our supporters, we can show not only the obstacles the community faces, but also the strength, hope, and ongoing potential for positive change.
